The history of Cricket goes back to 1961.
In this year the first Cricket lighter was produced in a place called Annecy located in France.
Cricket was the first disposable
lighter brand in the world.
In the year 1977 the Cricket Maxi lighter was born with a self-extinguishing nylon body and a fixed flame technology. Back then Swedish Match was the first self-extinguishing nylon body lighter manufacturer that introduced the fixed flame technology.
In 1985 Swedish Match acquired the brand name Cricket from Gillette. Cricket has since become the global lighter brand for Swedish Match lighter products.
In the late 80s Swedish Match launched the Cricket Original and Electronic lighter.
In the beginning of the 90s, the first Cricket Maxi, Original and Electronic lighter featuring a child resistant mechanism were produced.
In 1995 the first Utility lighter was introduced. The name of the model is Multilite. The second Utility lighter was launched in 1999. During the mid 90s the Pocket and the Mini were launched. These are the small versions of the Original and Electronic lighter.
In 2002 Crickets 'look and feel' gets a recognisable face and the first General Cricket brochure is launched.
The trademark 'Cricket bug' is replaced by the three dimensional C.
Per year, more than 350 million Cricket Lighters are sold, in over 140 countries.

A new lighter 'Cricket Firepower' was developed and placed in the market in 2003.
In 2004 Cricket launched
the Cricket Fusion.
The first 'Fusion' lighter that unites 2 nylon colors in one body.
The Cricket Firepower was given a new jacket based on modern colours.
Lighter serie has a range of 5 colour combinations, compared to 3 in the first Cricket Fusion lighter.
Child resistant lighters are mandatory in the European Union, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand (March)
To match the sleek design of the Cricket Firepower, Cricket designed a special holder for its Firepower.
Based on the great success of the Firepower range, Cricket has now launched the new Mini Firepower line.
Our utility lighter range has been strengthened with an exclusive new product.
The new process of producing the sleeves now makes it possible for us to offer a lower minimum production run of only 10,000 pieces.
